In May 1941, the German Waffenamt commissioned the VK4501(H), later known as the PzKpfw VI Ausf. E. Henschel und Sohn built the heavily armored chassis, while Krupp developed the turret. This 57-ton beast was one of the first German tanks to use a torsion bar with eight interleaved wheels. It boasted an 8.8cm KwK36 L/56 cannon and two MG34 machine guns. By war's end, 1,354 vehicles were produced, with some assembled at the Wegmann line.
